Another Sonic 2 Remake (2021 version)

This project was born from my love of Sonic, animation and my fascination with the Master System version of Sonic 2. It was my first game, I grew up loving it even with it's 8 bit limitations and flaws. After seeing both Triple Trouble and Chaos get fan remakes, and as a side project while I refine my skills, I decided to update my favourite obscure Sonic game! This game is built using the Opensurge engine, which debuted at SAGE 2019!

In this small demo, I hope you will get a taste of what is to come for this project
- Hand drawn and "digitised" sprites
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles style progression
- Drop Dash, Spin Dash and Peel Out for Sonic
- Brand new level design
- Remixed music from all across the Sonic community!

Keys:

I decided to update last year's demo so all can see the progress and playtest Sky High Zone! There have been several improvements to the assets, scripting and level design, as well as other additions to the engine and gameplay!

Known Issues:
- Pausing the game resets AI timeouts, and can cause issues with UGZ Act 2's Boss
- Power Sneakers and invincibility jingles play for a little longer than they should
- Sound mixing (this game is loud)

Latest reviews

The graphics are not great, being inconsistent (example: Underground Zone's spikes compared to Sonic, and Sonic's sprites in general.) and just too blurry looking. Games like Earthworm Jim or Aladdin at least polished up the sprites a bit to look better and not have white dots everywhere like here. The scaling of assets can be inconsistent too. The music remixes doesn't really fit the levels as they're too energetic or so for them, however the game plays very well. The fact it runs at 30 FPS often is odd as a 3D game like TF2 would also run at around 30 FPS on this laptop. Ultimately, it's a good fangame with poor hand-drawn graphics and odd choices of music. Mega-Drive style renditions of the S2 8-Bit music would have worked far better here.

bro i know it was 2 yrs ago you said this. but hes trying his best. you should be ashamed!
This was incredibly fun. Great level design. The overall visual style is good, but Sonic's sprite needs some work so he looks more consistent when he moves. The overall experience is still great, though.

i have a pro controller I could playtest for switch pro controllers, they are similar to the box controller and most games recognize it as such

Wow the level design is really good, it flows so well! I did run into some issues though, sometimes pressing jump on the controller does not work in this game and the act 2 boss didn't show up the first time. But overall really good job!
