Hi. This is a thread to vent, after the disappointment I had with the Sonic Central that was uploaded on Youtube to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic The Hedegehog.
Well. I've seen that Sonic Colors Ultimate is definitely going to be a remaster and no new content and that disappointed me, because I thought it was going to be a reimagining/reboot of the original Wii game with a more serious story and with Sonic not acting like a clown and Tails being playable. Not to mention that Roger Craig Smith will be back to play Sonic and I'm already tired of that. I would want Ryan Drummond back.
After that. There will be like a miniseries based on Sonic Colors titled Rise of the Wisps, which I don't like at all. Looks like a preschool series.
I don't expect anything from the upcoming 30th anniversary main game. Let's see if it's another game with boost gameplay where you will control only Sonic, possibly also Classic Sonic and some new gameplay but not playing with another character other than Tails, Knuckles etc. I don't want to get carried away by the hyper as happened with Sonic Forces.
After that. I came to the conclusion that Sonic has become very Family Friendly lately. And that's got me tired of it. To the point that the official YouTube channel was labeled as a kids channel and therefore you can't comment on it because it's disabled.
Sonic... WAS NE-VER FA-MI-LY FRI-EN-DLY... Proof of this was in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, which told darker and more serious stories and had a strong narrative. More if you played Dark Story in SA2.
Another proof that Sonic was never Family Friendly, would be with the Sonic SatAM and Sonic Underground series and comics like Archie (Pre-SGW) and Fleetway. Which also told darker and more serious stories and were not centered only on Sonic, but on other characters like Sally and the Freedom Fighters for example.
If Sonic Colors would have been a failure. As much in reception, as in sales, as well as in critics. SEGA would not have turned Sonic into a Family Friendly product as it is today.
Because of all that. It makes me want to take matters with that franchise and make it go back to the way it used to be during the 90's and early 2000's. Because that was the golden age that Sonic had, not only in video games, but also in series and comics.
I wish there was a project that consists of a kind of Polymorphic Content about a new franchise that picks up what made Sonic great in the past, both in video games, series, comics and novels.
It will reuse the same things and elements of the blue hedgehog (characters, stories, worlds, lore, alternate universes, etc.) but in a different context, since it will not be mainly about platforming, nor will it be about speed, nor will it have Sonic as the main character.
But it will be stories more focused on a more complex narrative, focused on different characters from different POVs and betting on multi-genres (RPG, Adventure, Strategy, Open World etc.).
That this franchise carries the name of Mobius and is based on the old canon, that is the rejected canon of Sega of America that is the Sonic Bible. Leaving aside completely the official canon of Sega of Japan and Sonic Team. So there wouldn't be things like the Two Worlds. And that this directed to a more mature public that already grew up with the Sonic franchise and that was following it from the era of the Genesis or the era of the Dreamcast.
I want Mobius to be treated as a franchise as such, and not a Sonic spin-off, no matter how much it uses the same characters, worlds, universes etc.
And for it to be a franchise owned by SEGA of America. This so that SEGA of Japan can't tell the American division to make x changes and also can't sue them, so the Americans and any western studio would have the absolute freedom to make all kinds of stories in Mobius without any kind of limit.
What do you guys think?
