The story

Dr. Robotnik has just put the finishing touches on his latest creation: a highly advanced robot wasp, infused with select data from a now destroyed Phantom Ruby. Being fed up with Sonic's popularity, the rotund doctor plots to use this robot to destroy Sonic for good. In the process of instructing his new robot, however, Robotnik uses the term "Sonic's fans" by mistake. The robot, hearing these words, mistakes his orders and sets out to capture Sonic's fans instead of Sonic himself. Robotnik sets off after the robot and takes a legion of Badniks with him in order to capture the rogue robot and stop him before things get out of control.

Days later, things have gotten out of control. The deed is done, and many of Sonic's supporters (and even some of his closest friends) are captured.

Meanwhile, a young adventurer named Hyper sits in his garage with a device he calls the Mystic Warp Pad sitting across from him. Unsure of how exactly it works, he hopes that some day he'll find someone to make sense of this bizarre machine. As of now, it's unknown where it came from, how it works, or why there were so many.

Just then, Sonic shows up at Hyper's doorstep, hoping he hadn't been captured by Robotnik's new robot, which he dubs "Quickshot." Sonic explains what's going on, and just before he takes off to look for Quickshot, Hyper offers to join him. At first, Sonic politely declines, saying he has all the help he needs from Tails. But when it's revealed that Hyper's cousin has been captured by the new robot, he demands that he be involved. Sonic has a hard time changing his mind, so he agrees to let Hyper join him and Tails on their quest.

The adventure begins when the trio makes their way to Ecstatic City, Hyper's hometown. There, they find Dr. Robotnik, who's searching for the missing robot but quickly resorts to attacking the trio when Sonic becomes a little too cocky. The fight is short-lived, and Dr. Robotnik reveals a ray gun that creates digital portals. Hyper manages to snag the ray gun, and mistakenly opens a portal to another dimension, where some of Sonic's friends and fans alike are being housed. The three run through the portal, leaving Dr. Robotnik by himself. The doctor flies back toward his base, in hopes of building a new portal generating device. He mumbles to himself about the other dimension, and how Quickshot used the Phantom Ruby to create an alternate dimension, capable of storing millions.

Sonic, Tails, and Hyper run through this funky new dimension until they encounter one of Sonic's other close friends: young and cheery Amy Rose, trapped in a spherical energy ball. Amy reveals that the others have been housed in separate pocket dimensions within the larger space. While thinking of a way to rescue Amy, several otherworldly enemies made of scrap appear. The trio fights them off, and Hyper blasts one with the ray gun he stole from Robotnik. However, said scrap robot swats it away and hits the ball Amy is trapped in, freeing her in the process. They realize that by using the ray gun, they can manipulate the pocket space's energy and destroy the energy spheres. Hyper shoots the ray gun again and creates a portal, but this merely leads back home, allowing Amy safe travel back. He shoots another portal next to it, and this creates a portal to another space: one that looks blue and covered with checkerboards, with soft Arabian music emanating from its source. Tails deduces from this that shooting the ray gun in a specific direction will determine what dimension is accessed. With this in mind, the trio takes off for the next space.

Back at his new island base, Dr. Robotnik has constructed a new version of Quickshot: one that takes orders well and is also much stronger. He prepares it for launch, but also boots up Hyper Metal Sonic for good measure, being aware of Sonic's inept strength.

In the other dimension, which Sonic nicknames "The Portalverse" for its puzzling nature, said trio has already rescued most of the captured. What awaits them in the next space will impact Hyper tremendously. Shooting a portal straight below them, they land in a space entirely yellow and orange. Hyper's cousin, Dash, is right behind them, blocked by a larger version of the scrap enemies they had been facing. The trio faces the new, larger foe and defeats it. Hyper uses the ray to free Dash and sends him back home before using it again to create a portal to another space just above their heads. They take for that space, and must journey to the final prisoner.

Dr. Robotnik finishes Quickshot 2.0, and reveals that the portal gun he possessed had caveats: it will short-circuit upon rapid and extreme usage. Unfortunately, the trio has no idea about this. Just as they are about to clear the final space and free the final prisoner, Hyper mistakenly jams the trigger on the portal gun, and a rapid barrage of energy blasts fire around the space. While the prisoner is freed and sent home, the ray gun creates a portal to a previously unexplored space and subsequently explodes, leaving the trio with no way home. The three explore for a short period before coming across Quickshot himself, who merely stands still, incoherently mumbling to himself. Sonic prepares to attack, but Quickshot is quick to the draw. The trio defeats Quickshot with relative ease, and Tails uses Quickshot's blaster and power core to create a new portal back home. But before they can jump through, Dr. Robotnik appears with Metal Sonic and Quickshot 2.0, shortly before leaving and closing the portal behind him out of spite. Now the trio fights Metal Sonic and Quickshot 2.0 at the same time. Metal Sonic merely desires to race Sonic, but Quickshot 2.0 takes no prisoners. After Metal Sonic is defeated, the trio turns their full attention to the robot wasp.

A harsh battle across multiple spaces takes place, with Sonic nearly falling to his doom before being saved by Tails and Hyper. The battle ends with all four back in Ecstatic City and the trio sore from the fight. Quickshot 2.0 is about to deliver a devastating blow, but Tails uses the blaster built from the first Quickshot to blast Quickshot 2.0 directly in the core, creating a portal that destroys him from the inside. The trio briefly celebrates before everyone they rescued comes out to congratulate them. Amy reunites with the gang and the adventure is officially over.

Later on, Hyper sits in his garage again, staring at a familiar blue warp pad. Still not sure of what it does, he decides to activate it. A portal opens and he's whisked away on another exciting adventure.

The end.
