Help wanted.Sonic fan game creation

I need help.Im thinking of creating a sonic fan game but dont know what engine to use.Does anyone have any recommendations for a engine that is 2d,modern physics and supports local multiplayer

2D and modern physics? Something like Sonic Rush? Most are prolly built around classic physics, but yeah do think those could be adapted.
