Yeah, good news. I've been working with an old backup I had of the engine. It doesn't have MKIII or any of the helper stuff. Anyways, I fished through the objects and coding and found what corrupted my file. I deleted the mess and started working again. Lots of progress. Hopefully I'll get something done by SAGE.
I WONT BE POSTING MUCH HERE AT THE MOMENT because well, the engine is rough as hell. I can post this though: ![]() This is Platinum Sonic's new design [prototype]. Real rough sketch. I'll be refining it and adding lots of details but this is what I got so far. As far as Mecha Madness goes... I work my ass off for this thing. Hopefully the fact that it's back to life and working well will keep me motivated to get back into the old work regimen I used to have. I'm also open for any help anyone can offer. It's a big project and I really want to get it done. Last edited by Streak Thunderstorm : 07-03-2009 at 11:46 PM. |

Platinum Sonic makes me think of the B&B unit in MGS4... probably just because of the heels.
Still, I'm glad you managed to sort out the problem that stopped you before, I've always enjoyed your project. |

And by the way, Platinium Sonic is looking great.

Alright man, glad to see you back in business. I had a feeling you'd come back eventually, it was just a matter of when. Sticking with this project instead of starting a new one takes something else man. Platinum Sonic looks wicked too, can't wait to see it as an in-game sprite.
Good luck with this endeavor, and for the love of life dude, keep your backups up to date! A second computer, your online e-mail account, neighbor's toaster, anything, just keep copies. |

I'm extremely glad you found a backup.
Mecha Madness is awesome. But I recommend you backup EVERYTHING. Don't think that's overdoing it. Save when you change the smallest things. Buy a 1 GB Flash Drive. Store everything on there. Platinum Sonic is nice, but the body shape makes it look feminine.

Alright. I've gotten a few comments about Platinum Sonic's gender. As we all know, Robots have no genitalia so they can't truly be male or female, lol. However, Platinum Sonic is genderless. It has both male and female attributes.

Oh dear good God! MechaMadness is back!
Now that's awesome news <3 I can't wait to see some progress. I like Platinum Sonic's design a lot. I wonder how it'll look like in sprite form...

Lol. I know Platinum Sonic rubs people the wrong way but I was going for that. You know.. in plenty of series there's a very feminine bad guy that kicks just about the most ass than any other. Take Orochima [Lol, anime.] from Naruto for example.

A little taste of what I've been doing for Mecha Madness so far. You can't attack any enemies but you can actually pull of smash moves [ala Brawl] now complete with the whole charge up and whatnot. I also programmed Sonic being hit and launched by enemies. Don't worry, it's not a brawl copy but the fighting needed to be a little more epic than it was before. Now Sonic can smash into walls and slide on the floor if he's stunned and hit hard. Double tap any direction to run fast [OMG REALLY!?] Smash moves.... Any direction+ ctrl. I programmed a little lag in the smash identifier so you dont have to press them at the exact same time. |

Yeah, really nice, the special effects especially. The whole 'screen going white for a few seconds' thing is sorta disconcerting though, and could lead to a whole lotta falling into pits.
By the way, did you get those files I sent you?

Here's a new test. The engine is still very rough but I'm getting lots of things together. The smash attacks are a little improved now. Sonic can now GUARD and DODGE. The guard key is \. When guarding, press left, right or down to dodge. When in the air, press the guard key to air dodge. Sonic can also rebound off of walls when launched by enemies. Instead of smashing Sonic's face into the wall, press the arrow opposite of the wall he's about to hit and he'll grab onto it and slide down. You can then jump right off the wall. I'll try not to give regular updates as that would make the game boring. I will be working on it for pretty much the whole summer seeing as how I finished classes today and everything's lookin' real nice. Stay tuned for a whole truckload of Mecha Madness stuff. Some new artwork[COMPLETE] is on the way as well. |

Same problem, Azu.
Hey, Streak. I'm following your project since SAGE'08 and I admire your game. After bad thing happened to the project, you've recoded it. It's fantastic, you didn't surrender. I'd like to help you with some sprites. Check this out: ![]() It's a kinda "Metal Overlord" boss sprite I've been working one day. If you like it, PM me please. |

Corrupt here, too.
And 29mb? You really should use music in OGG format at a lower bitrate - around 80kbps is equivalent to a 128kbps MP3. Unless you have 10 songs in this, I don't see why it's 29mb. Then again, you had this problem with the past version, and you said you didn't know why it was so big then, either... |

Sorry about the corruption, guys.
As far as the filesize... It's all the sound effects + the music. I think I'm gonna have to spend a whole day making everything a bit smaller. What settings should I use for all the sounds and musics so that it's smaller... but doesn't sound like ass? Quote:
As far as Mecha Madness is concerned... I'm not really interested in Metal overlord. He doesn't fit. |

Well, I just said. 80kbps OGG is a pretty good idea.
I'll give you an example. There's a set of WAVs on the site for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I believe. The largest of them all is 1b.wav, which is the game over song. It's nearly 1mb as a WAV file. After converting it with these settings in Goldwave: ![]() The file becomes 120kb with very little apparent loss in quality. That's one tenth of its original size for what is basically the same audio quality. The only people who will be able to tell the difference are psychotic audiophiles who encode all of their music in FLAC. Edit: It's worth mentioning, though, if you're converting music in MP3 to OGG, you should really convert the MP3 to WAV first, and then convert the WAV in to OGG. Converting directly from MP3 to OGG tends to muck up the audio in my experience. |
